Tumbler 16 Outdoor Embedded RFID Tag
Ø16 × 7 mm two-shot molded UHF embedded RFID tag with a ceramic RFID core and UV-stabilized PC housing. Designed for outdoor equipment and recessed metal installation, with up to 2 m demonstrated under defined FCC test conditions.
Outdoor embedded RFID tag with a sealed, molded construction
Tumbler 16 combines a ceramic UHF RFID core with a two-shot molded, UV-stabilized PC housing. The round Ø16 × 7 mm format is designed for recessed installation in outdoor equipment and metal assets where the identifier should remain protected and visually unobtrusive.
Protected identity for OEM integration and retrofit
Integrate Tumbler 16 during equipment production, or embed it in a prepared metal carrier for retrofit attachment to existing equipment. Recessed placement reduces exposed edges and can reduce direct impact and abrasion exposure during repeated handling. Retention and vibration performance require validation on the final assembly.
- UV-stabilized PC selected for sunlight-exposed equipment
- Two-shot molded housing for a compact sealed construction
- Flush or recessed installation preserves clearance and appearance
- Optional bracket concept can extend installation methods
One platform, controlled application variants
Tumbler 16 is the outdoor embedded core product. The platform can be adapted through controlled derivatives when the application requires a different interface or environment.
- Tumbler 16M: frequency-optimized metal-surface variant
- Bracket accessory: expanded mechanical installation
- Tumbler 16HT: PPS molded option for higher-temperature duty
- Final naming and claims released after validation
Tumbler 16 specifications
*Up to 2 m stated reference range. Reference configuration: embedded in a 150 × 150 mm standard metal plate, fixed reader, 30 dBm conducted output, 6 dBi antenna, FCC band. These conditions do not constitute a newly completed test record. Actual performance varies with metal geometry, embedding depth, orientation, reader, antenna and surroundings.

Application validation
Validate the complete installed assembly
Ingress, retention, UV exposure, impact, vibration and RF range depend on the final installation. Use representative production assets and the intended reader setup before volume release.
Tumbler 16 in a bonded metal mounting plate
For an oilfield equipment project, Tumbler 16 was interference-fitted into a small metal plate without additional potting. The plate was then bonded to the equipment with high-strength adhesive, reducing precision cavity machining on existing assets.
The prepared carrier supports consistent tag seating and mechanical protection. Plate attachment and installed reading still require validation for the equipment surface and service conditions.
Embedding & Installation Requirements
Define the tag-to-carrier fit separately from the carrier-to-equipment attachment. In the documented oilfield retrofit, Tumbler 16 was interference-fitted into a small metal plate without additional potting; high-strength adhesive then bonded that plate to the equipment.
Control the cavity dimensions, tolerances and seating depth in the metal plate using the approved installation drawing. The tag’s nominal diameter is not a machining instruction. Preparing the carrier separately reduces the need to machine a tag cavity directly into each existing asset.
The documented Tumbler 16 assembly uses an interference fit without additional potting. Follow the specified depth and orientation, using the tag’s arrow as the orientation reference. The project used a rubber mallet; follow the approved method rather than transferring installation instructions from another tag model.
High-strength adhesive attaches the completed plate assembly to the equipment. Specify the adhesive, surface preparation and curing process for the actual surface and service conditions. This adhesive joint is separate from the tag’s interference fit in the plate.
Verify the complete installed assembly
Check tag seating and orientation, plate attachment, RFID identity and the required reading distance on the actual equipment. For the bonded plate, perform the final checks after the specified adhesive cure. Define any required environmental and mechanical validation for the complete assembly.

Does Tumbler 16 always need potting?
No. The documented metal-plate installation uses an interference fit without additional potting around the tag. Adhesive is used between the plate and the equipment. Other installation designs need their own agreed method.
Must every item of equipment be drilled?
The bonded plate approach avoids machining a tag-sized cavity directly into each item. Its suitability depends on the available mounting area, equipment surface and service conditions.
Does the project demonstrate a guaranteed 1-metre handheld range?
One metre was the project’s handheld reading requirement. It is separate from the product’s stated reference range measured with a fixed-reader setup. Confirm performance with the intended handheld reader on the finished installation.
