OEM EMBEDDED / SOURCE-TAGGED RFID

Embedded RFID Tags

Design passive UHF RFID identity into tools, components and equipment at the source. Embedded installation reduces exposed edges, preserves the asset profile and protects the identifier within a controlled cavity, recess or molded feature.

Start with the host asset — the installation becomes part of the RFID system.

Embedding can improve mechanical protection, but cavity geometry, surrounding material and installation depth also affect RF performance. Validate the final assembly before production release.

1
Embedded means designed into the asset

The RFID tag is installed in a defined cavity, groove or molded feature so the identifier becomes part of the component or equipment—not an exposed add-on applied after production.

2
Source tagging creates lifecycle identity

Encoding and verification can begin during manufacturing, enabling one durable identity from production and quality control through commissioning, inspection, maintenance and end-of-life records.

FOUR EMBEDDED STARTING POINTS

Choose by cavity geometry and service environment

Choose by available geometry, required read zone and service environment. Tag dimensions are not cavity dimensions: approve the hole, depth, orientation, potting material and cure process before machining.

ULTRA-MINI CAVITY

Minimal footprint for compact components

For precision tools, small metal parts and OEM modules where every millimeter of mounting space matters.

NARROW GROOVE

Slim format for channels and rails

For elongated cavities where width and depth are tightly constrained but additional installation length is available.

BALANCED COMPACT FORMAT

Compact format for tools and fixtures

For tools, fixtures, molds and compact components with space for a 10 × 5 × 3 mm tag. Qualify RF performance in the final cavity.

OUTDOOR EQUIPMENT

Molded tag for outdoor recesses

For outdoor equipment requiring a round recessed format and UV-stabilized PC housing. IP67 is a design target pending formal validation.

CORE PRODUCT RANGE

Embedded RFID Tags

Four platform options cover ultra-mini, slim, balanced compact and outdoor recessed installations. The E suffix identifies embedded derivatives of the established Tumbler ceramic family.

DESIGN-IN VALUE

Protect the identity inside the product

A properly designed recessed or molded installation can reduce direct exposure to common causes of tag loss and damage.

  • Source installation during component or equipment production
  • Reduced exposed edges, snag points and external profile
  • Less direct contact with impact, abrasion and repeated handling
  • Improved resistance to unintended removal or tampering
  • Controlled location and orientation across production units
  • Lifecycle identification from manufacturing through service
INSTALLED-SYSTEM VALIDATION

Qualify the asset, tag and reader as one system

Embedding changes both protection and RF behavior. Validate representative production assets for retention, ingress, shock, vibration, chemicals, temperature and the required read zone. Lock the approved cavity, depth, material and orientation into the drawing, BOM and work instruction.

FAQ

Engineering questions before selection

What is an embedded RFID tag?

An embedded RFID tag is designed into a cavity, groove or molded feature in the host asset. The installed position, surrounding material and retention method are defined as part of the product or equipment design.

Why embed RFID during manufacturing?

Source installation can create a consistent, protected identity from the beginning of the asset lifecycle. It also enables controlled placement, encoding and verification within the production quality process.

Does embedding automatically make a tag shock- and vibration-proof?

Recessed placement can reduce direct impact and abrasion exposure. Vibration performance depends on retention, material compatibility and the host assembly. No tested shock or vibration grade is implied; qualify the complete installation for the intended loads.

Can embedded RFID tags be installed in metal?

Yes, when the tag and cavity are designed and tuned for the metal geometry. Nearby metal strongly affects UHF performance, so the installed configuration must be tested on the actual asset.

How does embedding depth affect read range?

Depth, cavity dimensions, tag orientation, surrounding metal or polymer and any potting material can all change RF behavior. Read range must be qualified with the intended reader and antenna.

What do the E model suffixes mean?

Tumbler 10E, 20E and 30E are embedded derivatives of the established Tumbler ceramic platforms. The suffix separates the source-installed configuration from the existing standard product.

Is Tumbler 16 certified to IP67?

Tumbler 16 uses a two-shot molded construction designed to meet IP67 based on production experience. Formal IP validation has not yet been completed, so project-specific testing should be included when ingress protection is an acceptance criterion.

What does the Tumbler 16 read-range claim mean?

Up to 2 m is the stated reference range. Reference configuration: embedded in a 150 × 150 mm standard metal plate, fixed reader, 30 dBm conducted output, 6 dBi antenna and FCC band. These are reference conditions, not a newly completed test record. Confirm performance on the final installed asset.

Can the family be customized?

Yes. Controlled derivatives can include regional frequency tuning, an on-metal surface version, a mounting bracket or a PPS molded high-temperature option. Claims and naming are released after the derivative is validated.

Can the tag dimensions be used as the cavity dimensions?

No. Tag size is not hole or cavity size. Confirm clearance, depth, tolerances, orientation, potting material and cure process on an approved installation drawing before machining. See each product's Embedding & Installation Requirements.
